The Bride and Groom
Direct Response Drawing
This made me laugh when I looked at what I’d done to their features – hence the caption. I drew from a wedding photograph someone kindly sent me in a group swap, (knowing that I collect them to draw from). The photo looks to be from around 1920 to me, but I’m guessing.

Wating for Physiotherapy
Direct response drawing
I drew this guy whilst I was waiting for a physio appointment. He was very close to me. which made seeing to draw a bit difficult, but I love the results.

Direct response.
I drew this from a photograph, to see what it would be like to do so without looking at the paper. I generally find drawing from photos harder than from life, but actually I was quite pleased with the result – it seems to me to have a sense of that visual clutter and chaos town centres’ posess. I’ve also started experimenting with laying down flat washes of colour before drawing which is interesting – nothing I want to share yet, though!

Man staring out the window
I’ve started to spend a lot more time in cafes again, just sketching people. It ranks amongst my favourite occupations.
Direct response drawing.

To be fair to this woman, she wasn’t eating three muffins but one – the other two belonged to her companions who I didn’t draw. Direct response, with hatching added later.

Looking at the Art
I went to London last week with my partner – we went to Tate Britain to have a look ak The Sleep of Arthur and there was also a drawing exhibition on. I fell in love with a drawing by Micheal Landy – it was of a 1960s sculpture by Tinguely made of junk and huge. I could have looked at it for hours. We went to the V&A afterwards – somewhere I’ve never been before, then on the London Eye, which made me feel a bit sick and then to Chinatown for a fabulous meal. A really lovely day. This drawing is of a group of people in the Tate – just a quick line drawing.

Various indeed – all direct response and one person invariably ended up either much bigger than the other or much higher or both. Drawn in Starbucks in an old sketchbook stained with coffee.
